I never cease to be amazed at the goodwill so many people display towards others. Yet, so often all we hear are the negatives that occur in our society.
Recently I had to undergo a minor surgical procedure. Due to the fact I had to be sedated I couldn’t drive to or from the medical centre. I have a personal trainer. His name is Jim and he is built like goliath. He is a great trainer and in constant demand.
I mentioned that I was having this small treatment and he rescheduled his clients so that he could both pick me up and drop me off. He was even late for a client because I was delayed at the centre.
I tried to pay him, at least for fuel and he just laughed at me. He said, “That’s what friends are for.”
Led me to thinking about what builds a community. Simply, the service we provide to others. Better if it is unsolicited. You see, our society must be based on the goodwill between individuals.
It’s ironic; if you go out of your way to assist others, you will find the universe will reward you many times over. I have recently been the surprised recipient of a number of such good acts. I cannot tell you how it makes me feel.
If you want to feel really good about yourself and others, find something you can do for someone else. More power to you.
