It’s time to share some news and views with you. Over the last few months in particular I have been receiving up to one thousand comments a day. I read every comment, I gurantee you. Quite a bit is spam, but much of it is not. To the spammers I say thank you because you must recognise the site’s popularity and, if you bother to read the posts, you may gain something.
To those whose comments are genuine I am very grateful and humbled that you are moved sufficiently to reach out. Many of your comments ask me where I got my knowledge and information from. If you read my last post you will see that I have been an avid learner all my life. What did I learn from? As we all do, as we pass through this gigantic puzzle called life we encounter problems, mysteries, situations that demand a resolution.
I have been stating (threatening perhaps?) that I would write a short e-book outlining some pivotal moments in my life that moved me to some of the beliefs that have guided my life. I have called it, “Lessons Life Taught Me.” It will be published on this site in a matter of days. The cost will be minimal and may provide some clues on matters of importance in your life.
Returning to my statement that I read every comment, even spam. I believe everyone has something of worth to share and I don’t want to miss the opportunity of learning. Let me share a comment that I received recently. It was a quotation that touched me deeply. It actually encapsulates a great deal of my personal philosophy.
“You make a living by what you get. You make your life by what you give.”
So much of our lives consist of working and scrambling to get things. All those symbols of success; the fancy house and car, the big bank balance etc, etc.
Yet, if you look back on your real triumphs in life you will find the vast majority of moments of true joy and exhilaration come from when you give to others. Just recall the look of love and appreciation at that unexpected gift or act of unselfishness. Or the love of partner and children. Those moments of substance are the pillars you build the worth of your existence.
We all face dark days, disappointment, moments of betrayal and times when we do wrong. Those are simply the challenges we all face; the tests of our determination, or ethics that life throws at us.
We all fail, at times, but it is the faith we have in ourselves and our capacity to persist and press through until we can once again give of ourselves that tells us the worth and purpose of our existence.
My thanks to the blogger who sent me that quote. It reflects true wisdom.
Live well,
Ollie Lind
